Synaptic Clustering Promotes Efficient Place-Field Formation in CA1 Pyramidal Neurons

Biophysical modeling of CA1 pyramidal neuron reconstructions and their synaptic topology shows that clustered excitatory inputs maintain dendritic calcium signaling and form robust place fields with much fewer active synapses than dispersed inputs, enabling efficient spatial computation.
